Wedding of President’s son is modest: House speaker

Democratic Party executive board deputy chief Marzuki Alie insisted that the high profile wedding of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s second son, Edhie Baskoro, was fairly modest and should not be fussed over.

Wakil ketua dewan pembina Partai Demokrat Marzuki Alie bersikeras pernikahan tingkat tinggi anak kedua Presiden SBY, Edhie Baskoro, sungguh sederhana dan tidak dihebohkan berlebihan.

“I see it as very humble. There were only chairs and perhaps a few rented items. For the level of a President, it was very modest,” he said on Friday, as quoted by kompas.com.

“Saya melihat itu sangat sederhana. disana hanya afa kursi2 dan mungkin beberapa barang yang disewa. untuk level presiden, itu sangat sederhana,” dia mengatakan pada Jumat, seperti dikutip oleh kompas.com

According to Marzuki, what made the wedding seem extravagant was the abundance of well known guests that attended. Inviting important figures was a necessity for any occasion held by the President, he said.

Menurut Marzuki, apa yang membuat pernikahan terlihat luar biasa adalah banyaknya tamu terkenal yang datang. mengundang tokoh penting itu penting untuk setiap acara yang diadakan oleh Presiden, dia mengatakan.

The House of Representatives’ speaker went on to question the media’s eagerness to scrutinize the wedding.

Ketua DPR menjawab pertanyaan hasrat media untuk memeriksa pernikahan.

“What are you doing reporting on the President? There are many other issues such as poverty and so on,” he said.
